When your as successful as Jack Dorsey has been in business, sometimes it requires some sacrifice.
But, these days, the CEO of Square and Twitter seems to be sacrificing more than most realize.
Dorsey recently opened up on a Ben Greenfield’s “Fitness: Diet, Fat Loss and Performance” podcast about his daily routine, eating habits, and much more.
Dorsey explained how he only eats one meal a day in the evening hours of between 6:30 Pm and 9 Pm.
He also mentioned that his dishes are made up of vegetables such as asparagus, brussels sprouts, salad, and spinach. His meals also have protein such as fish, steak, and chicken.
When the CEO chooses to have dessert, it’s only dark chocolate or mixed berries. Once in awhile, he will have a glass of red wine as well.
Here’s Dorsey on when he started his regime:
“The first time I did it, like day three, I felt like I was hallucinating. It was a weird state to be in,” he recalled to Greenfield. “But as I did it the next two times, it just became so apparent to me how much of our days are centered around meals and how — the experience I had was when I was fasting for much longer, how time really slowed down.
“During the day, I feel so much more focused… You have this very focused point of mind in terms of this drive,” Dorsey told Greenfield, adding that his sleep also improved with the meal changes. “The time back from breakfast and lunch allowed me to focus more on what my day is.”
Dorsey on his weekend routine:
‘I’ll go from Friday ’til Sunday. I won’t have dinner on Friday. I won’t have dinner or any meal on Saturday. And the first time I’ll eat will be Sunday evening. I’ve done that three times now where I do [an] extended fast where I’m just drinking water,’ Dorsey revealed.

Dorsey’s lifestyle is not just with his omad diet. He also uses meditation and a hydrotherapy routine where he goes in a sauna for fifteen minutes at 220 degrees. Then, he jumps into a 37 degree full ice bath for 3 minutes. Dorsey says he does this 3 times in a row.
“Nothing has given me more mental confidence than being able to go straight from room temperature into the cold,” Dorsey said of his eye-opening routine. “Especially in the morning, going into an ice-cold tub from just being warm in bed is — it just unlocks this thing in my mind and I feel like if I can will myself to do that thing that seems so small but hurts so much, I can do nearly anything.”
He says he also keeps a near-infrared light near his desk at work.
“When I do work, I just flip that on,” Dorsey says.
According to SaunaSpace, near-infrared light promotes cellular regeneration and anti-aging and prevents injuries and illnesses.

Recent Tweets about Dorsey’s Regime:
“Been playing with fasting for some time. I do a 22 hour fast daily (dinner only), and recently did a 3 day water fast. Biggest thing I notice is how much time slows down. The day feels so much longer when not broken up by breakfast/lunch/dinner. Any one else have this experience?” he tweeted.

Meditation is often thought of as calming, relaxing, and a detox of all the noise in the world. That’s not vipassana. It’s extremely painful and demanding physical and mental work. I wasn’t expecting any of that my first time last year. Even tougher this year as I went deeper.

For my birthday this year, I did a 10-day silent vipassana meditation, this time in Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar ??. We went into silence on the night of my birthday, the 19th. Here’s what I know ??

In addition to the Myanmar meditation retreat, Dorsey says he did another one near Dallas.
I did my meditation at Dhamma Mahimã in Pyin Oo Lwin. This is my room. Basic. During the 10 days: no devices, reading, writing, physical excercise, music, intoxicants, meat, talking, or even eye contact with others. It’s free: everything is given to meditators by charity. pic.twitter.com/OhJqXKInD3

Jack on his sleep after meditation:
I also wore my Apple Watch and Oura ring, both in airplane mode. My best meditations always had the least variation in heart rate. When I wasn’t focused, it would jump around a lot. Here’s a night of sleep on the 10th night (my resting heart rate was consistently below 40). pic.twitter.com/9fiz8s8DR5

Dorsey also revealed in the podcast that walking makes him feel ‘alive‘
I woke up at 4 am every day, and we meditated until 9 pm. There were breaks for breakfast, lunch, and walking. No dinner. Here’s the sidewalk I walked for 45 minutes every day. pic.twitter.com/xDI7gLx6mW

This mediation trip inspired him to meditate for 2 hours every day back in California.
Dorsey also mentioned that he is open to making even more changes in life to “survive.”
“A lot of my routine today is all due to what felt like just had to be done in order to, not only survive but to make sure that I can continue to be performing and continue to be clear,” he continued. “Some practices have been impactful, some I’m not sure if they’ve been impactful just yet. … It only benefits me if I can raise the bar on myself.”
