When we first start with eating a ketogenic diet, our body has to learn how to change over from burning carbs into burning fat. This process can take up to a month to happen, depending on each person.
So, even though we are only eating one meal a day with OMAD, and we are burning fat as fuel because we are also eating low carb foods, it still takes a while for our body to recognize fat as our PREFERRED fuel.
The good news here, is that, once we are fat adapted, our body will preferentially burn fat, and can easily change back and forth, depending on what we have eaten.
There are several ways that you can tell when your body has become fully fat-adapted, and one of the easiest ones would be that when we are hungry, we automatically think about eating a low carb food, such as bacon and eggs, as opposed to a bowl of cereal , for breakfast.
Here is a short video that explains about being fat-adapted, and gives you the indications to look for so you can tell when you have actually achieved the fat-adapted state.
