Anyone here do extended fasting?

It's like we're connecting on a spiritual level. Hahaha! :D

I think whatever we do, if we do it right and have pure intentions, God will most certainly understand. Let's keep striving for the best in all of us. We can do this through taking proper care of our bodies and following religious traditions whenever possible.

It's just as important to do good unto ourselves as it is to do good unto others. Self compassion is key. :)

Exactly my friend @Steve5, it's good to afford oneself some compassion when thinking about fasting. In as much as it's for the love of God and doing his will, you can't worship God being on a sick bed or critically ill.

So, when thinking about going on an extended fasting, it's very important to look out for your health and know the limit to push yourself to and never exceed it because the side effects will harm your life.

I don't do extended fasting. I think my body has adjusted to this new diet. I will stick with my schedule and after some time, I will try to extend or to upgrade my diet for better results.

That's very good to hear and it's very good that you are looking at getting better with your diet. As long as it works for you, I don't see the need for subjecting yourself to extended fasting or even any fasting at all.

There are some people who can't make it through fasting without suffering seriously as a result of cutting off food and fluids from their body. So, it's better to stick with what works for you best.

And the same can be said during Christmas time. It's often in the holidays our true sense of self-control is put to the test. We usually give in to the temptation of eating excessively just for the sake of it. We tell ourselves that it's okay because it's the holidays. But really, when is it ever okay to eat so much that it's no longer good for you?

I even wish I had time to eat as I please during Christmas period but the truth is that I don't because most times our Christmas period is filled with lots of programs and being an extended family, there is so much to do all through the festive season. There was a day I was practically stuck in a car driving wheel all day and only get to eat once. It wasn't funny at all.

I tried it once but I do really can't go for it for a long time. My body can't support that too much taking out of food intake. Other diet ar egood for me but not this one.

That will be over the top for me. Hands down to anyone who can do extended fasting as it requires discipline. The same thing with me, I don't think that my body can sustain that especially I have a thin frame. I have less stored fats or sugar to get me going.

Last week I fasted for 48 hours. It was not a water fast. It followed the 5, 2 protocol where you fast for 48 hours but you eat 500 calories which is practically nothing. So I did this and had my 500 calories like I do on OMAD at the end of 24 hours.Believe me It was not so bad I survived. On the second day I felt a burst on energy that I rarely feel.I promised myself that I would do this once a week right before my cheat meal. I know you have to be careful with how you do an extended fast, but I liked how I felt on it.

That does sound sad. I just noticed that we're more likely to be persuaded to abandon our diets during holiday seasons. It's like a grand excuse for letting ourselves go and eating out of control. Hahaha! :D

Well, you probably don't have to since you already have thin frame. It's more for people who need the extra push. Like overweight and obese persons.

Seriously, it's not easy driving all day. I practically had seating injury that very day from seating too long in the driver's seat.

The only fun thing about it was that I get to visit lots of friends and relatives from driving around working.

Before embarking on the same, may I ask if you consulted a physician. If not, why did you make such a decision? To me, it is important that we balance between getting a good body shape and ensuring that we eat in a healthy manner. I am not a supporter of fasting.

I agree. There may be good reasons why people push themselves to the limit such as this extended fasting. But just to get in shape, this is too drastic and can be detrimental to one's health.

Yes, there are healthier ways of doing so. It's more for people who can handle such restraints. It really depends on our physical conditions.

I think that this is the reason why most people don't joke with a nutritionist because they are the ones to prescribe the best diet to take in order to keep in good shape and be healthy.

The farthest I have gone is 3 days dry fasting and it felt as if I was going to die. I think it was because I hadn't tried it before, but I loved the sense of self-fulfillment after breaking the fast. I am currently on a water fast and have made like 30 hours already. The issue is, I am fasting as part of a spiritual program so that I can have a special time to meditate on the word of GOD. I am doing it as I also listen to some beautiful instrumental music with sounds of nature in the background. It actually feels like heaven. You should try it.

The very first time I went on a full day dry fasting, I almost died that very day or felt like dying. So, I ruled out full day dry fasting because it's definitely going to affect my health in a negative way. I can go with just one light meal in a day and not eat again till the next day.

The longest that I have done intermittent fasting is a 51 hour fast, and it really was not much different than doing just the one day fast that we do for OMAD. I still went swimming, and did the same things that I normally do, and felt fine.
Since we are burning fat at a steady pace, our body is not lacking for fuel, and actually has a much better consistent supply then when we are fueling it intermittently with sugar for fuel.
We are designed to survive long periods without food, so fasting for a few days is quite safe for most people.

I have been thinking that I might want to try adding an extended 2 day fast once each week, because it is supposed to have so many more health benefits when you fast longer.
Another option might be to break the fast each day like usual, but just have something simple, like a green smoothie , instead of a whole meal, and then go back to fasting again.
I like green smoothies, and I think that this is an option that I will try out.

The most I have ever done is two days. I must admit that after the second day was over I felt as if my stomach would crack due to the hunger. I have done it only once and it was quite hard for me so I am proud of your achievement @Kelly21.

My extended fasting most times isn't a deliberate one,I try to get busy daily so as to get my mind off food,so sometimes I get pass my eating time because of different projects I need to meet deadlines. But it always a plus to me because it still add to me burning more fat too.

An advice of one physician on fasting is that it cleanses the body. It is all right to go fasting for 2 to 3 days for the purpose of removing toxins from the body. But going fasting for more than 3 days is already an abuse to the body especially when you are not overweight, the blood sugar level may have a complication with the body’s system. We had a neighbor who is a fashion model. She would be fasting for a week just to shed off her weight. But when she collapsed, she had to quit fasting.

I belong to several fasting groups on Facebook, and there are many, many people on there who started out with intermittent fasting, moved into OMAD, and now are doing extended fasting because of the great results that they are having.
The longest I have fasted thus far is 51 hours, and the second day was actually no harder than the first day; but the idea that I should eat kept nagging at me, not that I was having real hunger pangs.
Your friend that is a model is probably already very thin, and I have read that most models are not healthy anyway; so it was more to do with her health than that she fasted for a week.
People have fasted for up to a year when they were excessively overweight, with no damage to their health; but of course this long of a fast was done under doctor’s supervision.

I haven't tried it myself, but according to the people on the videos I've seen they say that it's a myth that it is abuse on the body as it is just another way of triggering the body to shed fats naturally which is similar to what OMAD is aiming for and I've even heard that there was a 600lb man who was able to get down to normal size because of this method. I guess if you are not overweight it is a different story though so maybe you are right about that too.
