64 year old man and wife starting omad

That is awesome, @Mark1 !
The more I have been reading about the benefits of fasting, the happier I am that I am doing this, just like you are.
My body has pretty much gotten used to the idea of having only one meal, too. I tried one 2-day fast (51 hours), and that went just about as smoothly as just doing the one day fasting goes.
I have been reading that a lot of people are doing longer fasts, like 2-3 days once a week, and then you are supposed to get even more of the health benefits.
What are the main things that you have noticed that have improved since you started IF ?

we Have been on all of the diets. Started many years ago, counting calories. All worked for awhile. Latest was low carbing. Lost weight, but even though I kept my carbs low, I gained my weight back. And I always used MyFitnessPal. On our 14th day on omad. Now I don’t get hungry at all. Things are looking good.
As much as one loses weight with OMAD diet, it is a lifestyle and has many other health benefits. Among them is anti-aging.

60 days today! It’s a lifestyle now. Cravings are low. Usually just some water and goes right away. I’m not there yet, but if I can change to eating once a day, anyone can! I was like, it’s time to eat, so I ate. Now I have one hour. In that hour, I eat whatever I want. Finding now I can’t seem to eat as much. But after that hour, I eat nothing. It’s taught me that I eat mostly due to boredom between meals.

I think that what you are saying is right on target, @Mark1 . I have noticed that I seem to feel hungry right on schedule of when I usually eat, and now that I am eating once a day, I get hungry as soon as I get home from the fitness center.
As long as I am drinking enough water or other liquids (tea, coffee, etc), I don’t really get hungry most of the rest of the time. I think that the longer we live this way and eat like this, the more of a natural thing it will become.
Good to see you checking in again !

The body is like an autimatic timer on a clock, phone or any other electronic gadget that can be timed. It switches on at the right time. If you eat one meal a day at a specific tume, that is the time your hunger will be triggered. The body dies not only get used to one meal a day but also to the time you eat.

It becomes a habit and a lifestyle. One cannot feel hunger again at odd times as when yiu started. It waits for that time.

Thr only time you might feel out of place is when you are invited to a party with much food. That time you avoid to eat and your time may reach as you travel back. You reach home hungry.

Just let me tell you a short story... it’s now been 64 days on omad. I’m leaving tomorrow to Dallas to visit my daughter for 5 days. So, I’m getting things together for the trip. I’m trying to figure out which shorts to take. At 64 you have a lot of clothes. Different sizes (because you believe you’ll eventually get back down in size to wear them, but never do...until now). So I have two shelves in a closet for shorts. One shelf for two tight, won’t be wearing these, and one for I can still squeeze into these shorts. So, I forgot which was which. So, I started to try on shorts. All the shorts on shelf 1 fit ( I could have sworn those were the ones that were too tight), so I started to try on shelf 2 shorts. All those fit too! So in that excitement, I when to my big closet of pants I’ve kept for years. The long and the short, after 1 & 1/2 hours of trying on pants and shorts, I found I now have a new-old wardrobe. HOW GREAT IS THAT!

That is completely awesome, @Mark1 ! ! Now you have lots of clothes to decide which ones to pack for your trip to Dallas. I have some of those clothes in my closet, too, that “once upon a time” used to fit, and I am waiting for my body to get back to the size where I can wear them again.

75 days today! My wife and I have seen so much improvement. My wife and I look like we have been dieting for a long time. We are slim and trim. People go out to eat with us and can’t believe we are on any kind diet, we eat so much. My issues are now that my clothes are too lose, too big. I worry about buying more clothes. I have way too many clothes (before and after diets). It’s ridiculous, really. We are staying on omad for the rest of our life’s . So we are going to find out where this will take us. I’m going to be reporting back. I hope I motivate the young and older. It works. Most people say “I could never do that “. I tell em, our ancestors were lucky to eat a meal a day. They didn’t have refrigerators. They ate when they could. When people say they could never eat that way, it’s code for I like to eat, and I’m unwilling to give that up. It’s ok. I have no issues with that. But I think if you do something for 30 days, it becomes a great new habit.
God bless and good night.

does anyone know how tall Jimmy is? Is he still loosing weight? How long did it take to loose 80lbs? I watched his video, and I’ve asked these questions and waiting to hear from him. But really, is any know those answers please respond. Thx

I am really glad you and your wife are both doing well with this lifestyle, and you make a great point in regards to how our ancestors used to live. I can understand people's skepticism in this diet or lifestyle though because I myself was once very worried about this before I started since it didn't add up for me that eating less would make me less hungry because it just doesn't sound correct especially considering the traditional idea of a "proper" diet that has been pushed on us for decades. Anyway, I am glad you are successful and that you are spreading the word because I do believe that this is one of the most effective and natural ways to eat and live.

I think I came across where someone asked if there is an age limitation for those that can do OMAD, well your testimony is a proof and answer to that question because no one is excluded from doing OMAD irrespective of one's age. I'm happy to see you and your wife benefit from OMAD, it's a motivation for us the younger ones never to use age as an excuse to quit.

I am not sure how tall Jimmy is, although he might have added that information somewhere and I just do not remember, but I am pretty sure that he has reached his goal weight and is on maintaining that for some time now.

Thx for the update on Jimmy.
We are 88 days into omad. I’m doing great, so is my wife. It’s pretty easy now, at first it’s a big adjustment. Only eating once a day saves you a lot of money though. Lol. I’m not doing omad for that reason, but it’s pretty cool. My wife and I have to learn not to cook so much. We have way too many leftovers. Now that we don’t eat lunch, it means we eat virtually the same meal 2-3 times that week. Lol small problems, nothing huge.

We started 107 days ago. Going strong! People are beginning to notice. Best thing that ever happened to us. We love it. We’ve been married 39 years. Hopefully another 39.

188 days! Got through the holidays, it was much easier than I thought it would be. A couple of days with 1 small meal/snack and my main meal. Planned it that way on those days. It’s really a way of life. Certainly not a diet. I eat anything I want in my one hour. Pasta galore, pizza, deserts, and bread. I hated, on diets, giving up most everything I liked. That’s why I say, this is not a diet!

I totally agree with you, that this is a planned way of eating and part of a lifestyle, and not a plodding along kind of diet where you eat stuff you don’t want to eat every day until you just quit completely .
When we plan to have a special meal, or even a day with several meals, that is simply one of the choices we make, and it is not at all the same as binge eating , where we do not intend to eat something (or as much of it) and then we can’t stop ourselves.

That is really great that you and your wife enjoy this together, @Mark1 , and I believe that this makes it a lot easier for both of you, since you are support for each other. My husband doesn’t do OMAD, but he has his own eating routine, and I have mine, and so we each eat what and when we want to eat.

Funny, how people with no real life knowledge, write articles about how bad IF is. It’s a total joke. I love getting up in the morning, having my coffee and really not thinking of food. Most write, your going to be hangry, it’s not natural, could be harmful to your body. Total garbage! I feel I’ve totally taken control over eating, for once in my life. I’ve kept it simple. I fast for 23 hours, eat within a 1 hour window period. I think people fight this, mostly because we like to eat and eating is social. But eating is not necessary for most of us. Lol.

Before food became a commercial product, no one really was concerned what or when people ate, except the person themself. Working people who were farming, or something similar, grow their own food, worked long hours, and ate maybe 1-2 each day.
Now, most people buy their food from the store, and we are indundated with commercials to help us decide which food we want to eat, and we are told we need to eat at least 3 meals a day, plus snacks.
It is not that people suddenly need more food each day, it is because it is now a commercial sales item, so the food companies want to encourage people to eat more food.
