What do you all do for your 1 meal a day?

Don't know if anyone else is having this issue but being a diabetic for years sugars were way out of control then going to OMAD is quite a lifestyle change since my weight was a big deal and my eating habbits were almost impossible to change which they did and I have reversed my diabetes I find myself wanting to go back to my old eating habits. I was strictly eating a salad with grilled chicken once a day and still am but now I have mixed it up occasionally eating a triple meat meal or grilled chicken burger one week then maybe a salad buffett with soup to chinese food like grilled chicken with a salad on the side while still eating once a day. I am still losing weight but does anyone know or have you all done this? I know the triple meat and fries are bad but I think its harder to go back to eating a salad once a day and its getting harder for me to revert back to a salad, a good pig out is allowed once in awhile but I'm afraid if I do that I will simply go back to my old habbits... What do you all recommend???

When you eat the triple meats, does your weight fluctuate? How are you feeling when you eat the bad food as opposed to the salads, etc?

I still lose weight like maybe a pound or two with the week that I do eat it and as for the salad minimum of about 5lbs a week if I eat that with no meat which I did for like 5mos in a row. now its more like 3.5 to 3.9 pounds a week last time I checked. I really didn't notice any change the only problem is that its harder to return to the salad after a meal like that.

If it's harder to return to the salad after a meal like that, eat the salad first. I found that I didn't want the healthy stuff after my meal, so then I started eating Veggies and /or a salad and/or fruits while preparing my main meal. If I eat them first, I know I had healthy stuff- I also take vitamin supplements just in case.
p.s. you'll still eat your main meal if you have the healthy stuff first, but you won't eat the healthy stuff if you have the yummy main meal first.

Over and over, I've read that you can eat what you want, but just a one plate rule. One plate is the focus, no more than 3 inches high. I believe this is so that we don't go overboard. I have a 9 inch pie plate that give me plenty of room. I haven't heard of people that only eat a salad for their meal. I believe that if you make sure you have fruits and veggies with your meal, you are less likely to go back to your eating habits- I eat what I want, within reason and VARIETY is necessary. You can't get everything you need in a salad and chicken. You should be including bananas, dates, potatoes - things with potassium for your heart muscle or you can hurt your health. Definitely have variety!!! People who eat variety lost weight on OMAD. Salad and chicken is not sustainable

This is a really good point Shelly. I tell people to not go over 3 inches on their plate, but the whole point is to not go overboard and make your one meal into 2 meals. As you mentioned, the most important thing is getting a balanced meal.

I like the idea that this thread gives the opportunity for folks to see what OMAD looks like for everyone. I know it's been a while since it was started but I was wondering if the OP tested his blood sugar the mornings after his meal and if there were any noticeable differences. I am planning to incorporate 1 day of the week where my OMAD is comprised of only protein sources whether meat, beans, or lentils. Tomorrow I may try that option. Weight wise it helps me lose some of the water weight.

I agree with Shelly and Jimmy totally. For me, I try to have a balanced meal that I am able to comfortably consume within 1 hour.

I just eat the same evening meal I would have eaten before I started OMAD. Usually some form of meat, two or three veg and potatoes, or curry and rice or a pasta dish. The reason being I haven't told my wife I no longer eat breakfast or lunch, she is very much of the opinion that three square meals is the only way, breakfast is most important and meat is a must.

I don't think I could have just salad for a meal and I think I would not be able to do this long term if I were that strict on myself. For now I am still eating rice with my meals but have slowly cut down the amount and am trying as much as possible to slowly eliminate carbohydrates if I can, but if not then I will not take it too hard and just be glad that I have at least cut down my intake to one meal a day. Just the one plate rule is enough for me as a measure and from time to time I also think about not going over the daily calorie limit but for the most part the one plate rule is already a good enough measure for that as well.

For you to be safe, I recommend that you should eat salad or the green leaves that you can eat. Or you might learn how to eat those food in order for you to have a healthy body. You said that you are afraid to go back to your habit with the triple meat, all you can do is to focus and don't mind if you go back. It is all about discipline the that is the key for you to adjust on dieting.

You have one of the best resources in the world for getting meal ideas and diet plans, and that resource is the internet. For a diabetic, you’d do really well on a ketogenic diet which places an emphasis on avoiding foods which cause an insulin response. Basically, you’d be on a diet with a daily carbohydrate intake of under 20g a day. You'd get the majority of your fuel from fat, some from protein, and a minimal amount from carbs.

The ketogenic diet has gained a lot of popularity recently, and there are many sites and forums dedicated to sharing delicious keto recipes, so you’d always be able to eat something unique! Heck, we even have a subforum here dedicated to it. Try it out and see if it works for you.

From my experience, our old long habits are very hard to be dropped completely. It's more like an addiction and if you aren't 200% determined to quit sliding back into such habit, it's definitely going to be very hard for you to stop it.

I understand exactly what you are going through and believe I'm very aware that it's not easy, but all you need to look up to is the advantage and positive side of sticking to your diet plans, it should be enough to prevent you from going back to your old eating habits.

I can totally relate to your plight here,it never easy not to slide back to ones old eating habit, it almost like an adduction where we try to fight to let lose of it,I had the same problem initially but what helps is focusing on the benefits you will derived from forging ahead and sticking to a plan that would be beneficial to your health and your weight. If the triple meat meal would be an obstacle then you try to drop,it better you go with a balanced diet that will be more helpful in the long run.I eat more of a balanced diet and just a good portion of it.
