I can't help eating processed Food especially doughnuts. I guess it's the cause of my acne... I would like to know if anyone could help me out. How Did U stop eating processed Food? If so. what made you stop?advice please.

Hi Lisa. I suffered (now recovering no jinx) from hormonal acne and have tried so many things. I was reading and article discussing the correlation between hydrogenates oils and inflammation. In a quest to remove hydrogenated oils which I discovered are, along with sugar, in nearly everything. So I made a conscious effort to cook 90% of what I eat and the remainder comes from restaurant whenever socializing. Even then I go with a tuna or shrimp ceviche knowing that most restaurants use cheaper options like hydrogenated oils(vegetable, cotton, etc)
Once I started cooking my meals, i noticed a huge difference in my acne and had similar weight loss results as when I started OMAD.
How about cooking the processed foods you’re craving when possible and let the slip ups be minimal. For me, nacho cheese doritoes are one of the only processed food items I still crave but other than that the taste for processed desserts are even gone

Lisa, just a thought - I am a newbie trying to figure out what to eat.

Regarding your doughnut situation--try this take your favorite one and put in a bowl and just cover it with water and let it sit there overnight and 8 hours see how it breaks down. When you see this hopefully, you will realize "I do not want that in my body". Then maybe find a substitute for that doughnut, maybe a protein bar. Good Luck

Thanks. These are great suggestions. I am going to make an effort to start cooking more of my meals from home for sure. I agree that I think this can help me out a lot. I like the idea of letting the doughnut sit as overnight as well. It reminds me of a picture I saw a long time ago of a mcdonalds meal that sat for 6 months and it looked horrible.

I do still eat some processed foods, but not near as many as I used to. I'm just slowly choosing more whole foods to add into my meal and I make room for the processed foods in moderation so I don't feel like I'm restricting myself because as soon as I feel like I'm restricting myself I end up in the mind-set that I need to eat all of the "bad" things. Omad and weight-loss has been at least 80% mental for me, maybe even more. Baby steps for me when it comes to changing things have made the changes sustainable rather than just cutting things out all at once. So maybe swap one processed thing out with a healthier option a few days a week and build from there.

I think Agathist makes a good point. it’s so hard to avoid all processed foods so I pick my battles you know and specifically try to eliminate those with hydrogenated oil. Still crave a few processed food. For instance, I am craving vegetarian baked beans in a can ( with diced turkey or all beef hotdogs) which is weird because I’ve been only craving fruits and veggies prior so I suggest taking baby steps like first identifying those processed foods that you absolutely aren’t considering eliminating, those that you can, and those that may trigger overeating. Idk why but for me doritoes and certain crackers trigger a nonstop desire to polish off the bag or box then eat everything in sight afterwards. I’m using this omad lifestyle to really understand how food is making me feel both physically and mentally

The beans themselves are vegetarian because there’s no pork product i.e pork and beans but I used to add my own turkey or beef hotdogs. Why vegetarian ones then? Because I like em.

I advise that to cut out your cravings you combine OMAD with a low carb diet, where you're mostly eating vegetables and protein. I also recommend that you try and have the same food everyday, this numbs your taste buds in my opinion and you stop craving foods like donuts so much. However I have found that once you've been on OMAD for a while , because you eat only once a day, you stop craving for junk food and only want to nourish our body with the best foods.

You are not alone in the boat because it’s not only me but also some in my family. We love doughnuts and other fast food items like French fries. With processed food, there is hot dog and sausages and other canned goods. Maybe we cannot escape from junk foods because it is in our midst. That’s the culture of food in this modern times and the only thing we can do is to teach ourselves on how to avoid such unpleasant or undesired food. Perhaps we can cut down by eating lesser and lesser until such time that we don’t crave for those foods anymore.

I think you should have strong motivation, that's all you need. Avoid watching or go to the the store where there're a lot of food. Drink plenty of water so, you always feel full.

I'm still eating processed food with my one meal per day and I found that since I have started eating just once a day it has become a lot easier to control and portion my intake since I am more aware of it and also I don't have to deal with the temptation the rest of the day. I think once you get used to eating just once a day you will eventually find it easier to alter your diet since you are only having to worry about changing aspects of one meal a day instead of three.

I think you should exercise your mind first because the hunger and the desire of eating certain foods come from your brain, set your goals and stick to them, is not that hard.

It is going to be tough to quit taking processed food especially when we have gotten to that stage where we can claim that everything is working really well with the dieting that we are doing. However, you need to see the need to make some sacrifice as it is a way to be on good terms as well.

Having the right mix of motivation and discipline is one thing that is going to bring better result as I have come to notice that some of the successes that we are going to have with Omad, need our sacrifices

This is a personal decision you just have to discipline your self to dump your cravings. It wouldn't go away on it own you need to work on it,so discipline yourself, switch to healthy options and enjoy it that's just the way out.

It's all about initiative, if you think healthy then try initiate a plan. Its not a one time work, but with discipline eventually it will work. Some processed food are really similar with home made ones the difference is the additives and the way they preserve it. I suggest you try making your own similar foods like doughnut. You'd be surprised how easy to make it, of course without other ingredients and preservatives.

I believe that it's all right to satisfy your cravings once in a while. Doing it often will disregard the efforts you put into dieting. Not giving in to temptations (ONCE IN A WHILE) will make you feel deprived and quite miserable. That may also lead to binge eating.

Yeah, Everything is possible if we know how to control our self and strong motivation to achieve something. There's no one can blame if you don't achieve your goal, your self only.

Well, instead of eating sweets, substitute it for nutritious fresh fruits. Doing this would cut down your sugar. Also you can opt for whole grain snacks like whole grain muffin with nuts, raisins, dates sweetened by natural honey to keep it healthy and nutritious.

You say you “can't help it”? Well there's your problem right there. No will power. There's nothing anybody can do for you that you won't do for yourself. If you decide that YOU CAN HELP YOURSELF, then most of the advice already provided in this thread is good. Hope you can start eating healthier.
