Changing feeding window with Omad and Intermittent fasting

Sometimes changing your OMAD feeding window can make a difference.

I’ve been going along well with IF. A mix of OMAD and 2,3, and 5 day water fasts.

All of a sudden I can’t seem to make it through my 23 hours and longer fasts are out for now. Not sure what my issue is because I am eating enough.

Two days in a row I had to break my 23 hr fast 4 hours early. I didn’t feel bad because I know each day our needs are different. However I noticed the change in time really helped.

Normally I break around 4-5pm. Now I have decided to breakfast at 12pm. I don’t like having to prep my lunch I was enjoying the no lunch freedom. But the change in schedule has helped in the following way:

- I do not over eat. Since there is some distance between me and the fridge I’m not going back to nibble because it was tasty.
I eat what I packed and if I’m hungry still I always have my “just in case of emergency” protein shake.

-it seems my digestion/elimination is better because I am more active.

-I am an ex smoker. Eating earlier allows me to chew the hell out my gum after my meal and during the more stressful part if my day.

- I sleep better. Even though I am usually 3-4 hours between my meal and going to bed. Now I am 8 hours between my meal and bed. It seems my nocturnal functions are more effective.

-Additionally since I’m not eating in the evening it seems I get in bed a little earlier.

-lastly because I no longer get the evening sleepy’s I feel more productive.

I just thought I’d share how changing my schedule helped me.

Yes, I think early afternoon is the best to eat, but since I am gone all day, the only time I could do that is on some weekend days. Maybe I could do that, but then my fasting time would swing widely, which might be not such a bad thing. Mercola in his book Fat For Fuel writes, that variations are good for our bodies. Our bodies thrive on changes as in the wild we would have lots of eat sometimes for a day or two, then sometimes we would fast a few days in a row, and most of the time probably would be OMAD, LOL...:)

I had an earlier eating window yesterday having my meal at 430 instead of late evening. I woke up feeling lighter. I think I like that time but I know I was only able to eat that early because it was Sunday. Doesn’t work for me during the weekdays

Today realized early afternoon doesn’t work for me. 430 is perfect timing as I feel best but evening around 7 is more convenient

Yesterday (Sunday). I had my meal at 1 pm primarily because I wanted to ensure that I had more than 24 hours before I'd eat again. So far, I enjoy extended fasting and see the best results when my meals are at least 24 hours apart. I also enjoy working out in a fasted state which I will do around 2 pm during my lunch break. I plan to eat today at 6 pm. The fact that I have leftovers from yesterday makes this easier for me.
What I noticed yet again with an earlier omad is the fact that while I am not hungry, my body was telling me that I wanted a snack. I thought about snacking for a few seconds but said nope as I knew I wasn't hungry...like at all. This happened around my usual eating window between 6-8. I think the reasons are 1) my body was expecting food and 2) Sundays have always been "eat whatever you want all day" kinda days for me. Instead, I drank water, water, and more water.

I intermittent fast for 21 hours and have a 3 hours eating window. I stop eating at 9.00 pm sometimes earlier and start eating at 6.00 pm or latter if I'm feeling particularly brave. I really don't know if I could stop at 1.00 pm and start the next day at 6.00pm. I prefer eating dinner so I can fast for longer then 6.00 pm maybe till 8.00 pm or 9.00 pm but I would be literally sleeping on my food. More power to you. You also maybe finding it hard to maintain your diet because you are on your period? Just a thought!

It's interesting that most of us combine eating one meal a day with intermittent fasting. I'm currently doing the basic 16 hours of fasting. I have an 8-hour window for eating. But since I'm also eating only one meal a day, I'm mostly just drinking lots of necessary fluids like water.

Yes I agree that our bodies thrive on changes! :)

Thanks for sharing this. I do think it's good to experiment until you find the right balance for your own routine since ultimately we all have to do different things and I really agree with what you said that sometimes each day's need is different. I am mostly sticking to OMAD now since I'm new to it but I have also been changing up my time a bit here and there though not by too much so I can maintain some consistency to get myself used to it. I did IF in the past and I ended up eating too much within the allotted window so I think for now OMAD is the best way for me going forward until I am able to re-train myself to eat a more proper amount.

Yeah that’s perfect it’s important to find what works for us personally and keep listening to our body! :)

You did well to bring this up,maybe I would have to experiment with the changing schedule and see how it will really benefit me. But I think my body is getting used to my period of eating between 1-3pm.I just hope changing it wouldn't be more of a problem than a solution.

I try as much as possible to maks sure that I only eat after 3pm and before 5pm. I have a 2hours schedule to prepare myself adequately especially when I need to shop or cook heavily. Any adjustment to that schedule can cause a disorientation that can proceed to the rest of the week and it is always discouraging. However the journey keeps going.
